My time at the Goldsmiths Centre

I spent a year training on the Pre-apprenticeship Foundation Course. I was one of seven students and it was an amazing year and I learnt so much during my time there as well as meeting some great craftsmen along the way. We were taught the basics in many different areas of metalwork, from diamond mounting to silversmithing. We were also taught engraving, enamelling, chasing, setting and polishing. We were also taught how to design and draw our work, with various methods such as the standard pencil and paper technical drawing, gouache painting and a two day course in basic CAD using the rhino software. During my time at The Goldsmiths Centre I was working towards various City and Guilds qualifications and my overall grade was a Distinction.

Benvenuto Cellini award

I finished at the goldsmiths centre in July. On the 16th September I was invited to the Shine 2013 exhibition. This was an exhibition to showcase up and coming young designer goldsmiths and jewellers. As part of the private view there was an awards ceremony for the 2012-2013 Pre-apprentice students from the Centre . I was fortunate to win the Benvenuto Cellini award, which had been judged by Theo Fennell and Stephen Webster, awarded and sponsored by Adam Munthe. I am really thankful to the tutors and everyone at the Goldsmiths Centre who helped me during my time at the Centre and helped me achieve this.

Tivon design competition

In August I entered a design competition through Tivon Fine Jewellery. The brief was to design a bold, striking piece of jewellery that was in keeping with their love of wearable and classical jewellery. I entered my design and I was short listed as one of the four finalists. The four designs then went to a public vote on Facebook. It was a close call with hundreds of people voting but in the end Tivon decided that there would be two winners, of which I was one. The necklace is now being put into production by the Tivon production team and 20% of the proceeds from the piece go to my chosen charity, The Goldsmiths Centre.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me.

Indenturing at Goldsmiths Hall

After finishing at the Goldsmiths Centre in July, I started working for my father, A.R.Buckingham back home in Lincolnshire. On the 6th November I was indentured at Goldsmiths hall at London as a Goldsmiths Company apprentice in jewellery and diamond mounting. I will now serve a four year apprenticeship. Upon finishing my apprenticeship I will be granted freedom of the Goldsmiths Company as well as freedom of the city of London.

City and Guilds award for excellence

I have recently found out that I have been awarded the city and guilds award for excellence. During my time at the Goldsmiths Centre we were working towards the level 2 City and Guilds in jewellery manufacturing.
